I am a Rock, I am an Island… I am the Law!

Friday, Oct. 19, 11:50 p.m. – While patrolling the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive, an officer observed an 18-year-old man throw a full can of beer at several people standing on the balcony of a residence.

Afterward, the person-pelter took off running eastbound down DP before the deputy stopped him. Upon contact, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol and noticed that the man was very unsteady, so he told the subject to sit on the curb.

While he was seated, the man shouted at the officer, “I’m the cops, go away!”

The deputy corrected the man, informing the subject that he was, in fact, not a man of the law, but a man in custody.

The man was then arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail where he was housed pending sobriety.

Put It on My Tab

Saturday, Oct. 20, 12:22 a.m. – A deputy observed a 22-year-old man staggering in both directions for several steps down the 6600 block of DP.

After contacting the zig-zagger, the officer immediately observed that the man was very drunk. He had to catch the man and force him to sit on the curb just to keep him from toppling over.

During questioning, the man provided the deputy with several different partial addresses before admitting, “[I] have already been arrested so many times [I don’t] even care anymore.”

As such, this made things easier for the officer, who then arrested the man for public intoxication and transported him to the Santa Barbara County Jail where he was housed pending sobriety.

An Officer and a Gentleman

Sunday, Oct. 21, 12:58 a.m. – An officer patrolling Camino Del Sur stopped a group of three women. He noticed that two of the women were trying to separate the third from an unknown man.

The deputy asked the group what the problem was and the two coherent women said they were trying to keep the inebriated 19-year-old woman from going home with a stranger.

The officer then began questioning the subject, who said she was just taking a stroll with her boyfriend. However, she could not recall her suitor’s name.

After realizing she did not know this slightly important piece of information, the woman admitted, “He has no idea even who I am.”

The mystery date then shook his head, indicating he did not actually know the subject and skedaddled before getting himself into more trouble.

Noting the woman’s disoriented state, the officer then suggested that she tag along with him instead for her own safety – and she agreed.

Subsequently, the woman was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail where she was housed pending sobriety.
