The Goleta branch of Montecito Bank and Trust was robbed Monday afternoon when a single male suspect entered the bank and demanded cash from a teller.

Witnesses described the suspect as a 5-foot-8-inch Hispanic man with a moustache and bandages on his face. He was wearing a black baseball cap and a long-sleeved T-shirt, and was carrying a black plastic bag.

The suspect entered the bank, located at 5658 Calle Real, at 3:27 p.m. and left after receiving an undisclosed sum of money from a teller, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept. Sgt. Phil Willis said.

Witnesses interviewed by the police said the suspect was last spotted on foot on the 5600 block of Encina Road, located directly behind the bank.

The Sheriff’s Dept. also received information that a car described as an early 1990s compact vehicle, possibly a Honda, was parked near the bank at the time of the incident. The witness said there was a second man sitting in the vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery can contact the Sheriff’s Dept. at 681-4100.
