Punch Drunk

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, Isla Vista Foot Patrol officers patrolling the intersection of Embarcadero Del Mar and Pardall Road observed a 19-year-old male walking with two other male subjects.

The suspect tripped stepping off the curb and stumbled into the roadway. The suspect was arguing with one of the subjects, and the two started fighting in the street. The two had to be pulled apart and separated.

Upon being taken into custody the suspect had a bloody lip. He immediately said to the officers, “Why did one of you cops hit me in the mouth?” The officers advised the suspect that he received the bloody lip from fighting with his friend.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.

Memory Lapse

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 25, a 27-year-old male walked into the IVFP station and said in Spanish he was looking for his brother, who was supposed to be shopping in the area.

The suspect showed signs of extreme intoxication while speaking to the officers. When asked by the officers where he lived, the suspect said he couldn’t remember. The suspect later remembered he lived on Embarcadero Del Mar, apartment number seven. However, he couldn’t remember the address.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.

He’s My Imaginary Brother

At approximately 12:35 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, IVFP officers, responding to assist with a large bonfire in the roadway of the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive, observed a 17-year-old female holding a clear plastic “Bud Light” cup which was half full.

Based on the severity of the fire and the crowd of approximately 100 people yelling and fueling the fire, the officers walked past the suspect and continued toward the fire. When the Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. arrived and moved the crowd back, the officers walked back to the suspect and saw she was still holding the cup of beer.

The officers took hold of the suspect’s left arm and escorted her to the curb. When asked by the officers how old she was, the suspect said 18 years old. The suspect’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and her speech was slurred.

The suspect told the officers she was going to walk home. When asked by the officers where she lived, the suspect said, “Palmdale.” She also said, “My brother is a cop just like you.” During the completion of booking paperwork, the suspect told the officers her date of birth was 08-06-83, making her 17 years old.

The suspect initially told the officers she was 18 years old to avoid being arrested. The officers telephoned the suspect’s mother, who was under the impression her daughter was at an unknown location with a female friend and was surprised her daughter was in the Santa Barbara area.

The officers asked the suspect’s mother about her having a son in law enforcement because of the suspect’s previous statement. The mother replied, “I don’t have a son; she must be pretty wasted.”

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication, minor in possession of alcohol and curfew violation, and was transported to the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall, where she was housed, pending sobriety.

Fencing

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, IVFP officers patrolling the intersection of Embarcadero Del Mar and Pardall Road observed a 19-year-old male stumble into a fence as he attempted to walk southbound on Embarcadero Del Mar.

When the officers contacted the suspect, they had to help him to the curb because the suspect would have fallen without the officers’ assistance. The officers determined the suspect could not care for himself due to his level of intoxication.

During a booking search, the officers located less than one ounce of marijuana in the suspect’s pant pocket.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and was transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.

Frantic Hitchhiker

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, IVFP officers were called to the intersection of Calle Real and San Antonio Road because an 18-year-old male was seen walking in the street, waving his arms at traffic and putting himself in danger.

When officers contacted the suspect, he was still standing in the street waving his arms. The officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the suspect when he spoke. The officers asked the suspect to sit on the curb due to his lack of balance.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and possession of a false identification and was transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.
